2025 Nissan Patrol Pro-4X off-road variant: LandCruiser 300 GR Sport rival revealed

An off-road-focused version of the Y63 Nissan Patrol has debuted in the US with all-terrain tyres and enhancements under the skin.

An off-road enhanced version of the new 2025 Nissan Patrol has been unveiled in the United States, where it’s sold as the Armada.

The Pro-4X adds a tougher exterior appearance to Nissan’s new Y63 model unveiled simultaneously in the United Arab Emirates as the Patrol and in the United States as the Armada overnight.

Initially available in the United States – with no current news on a Patrol Pro-4X for other markets – the variant also features all-terrain tyres, an increased approach angle, and underbody skid plates.

In addition, it gains red Nissan badges, 20-inch black-painted alloy wheels, and a black interior finish with red accents compared to standard models.

An air suspension system will also be standard for the Pro-4X – and available on other Patrol variants – to increase ride height by 70 millimetres when rock-climbing, or lower the vehicle by 140mm for easier ingress/egress and better fuel efficiency on freeways.

It would represent a rival to the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series GR Sport – with a similar off-road focus to the Pro-4X from Nissan – which is the only variant in the line-up with an electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, and front and rear differential locks.

US-market versions of the Y63 Patrol retain the same 335kW/700Nm tune from its new 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 as its luxury Infiniti QX80 sibling, while Middle Eastern models are slightly down on power at 317kW/700Nm.

As detailed here, the sixth-generation Patrol – the first new model in 14 years – wears a more upmarket design but it remains boxy and tough in its proportions.

Inside, Nissan has added a 28.6-inch widescreen display – split between a 14.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 14.3-inch digital instrument cluster – with Google Built-In for access to the tech giant’s Maps, Assistant, and Play Store services.

The Y63 Nissan Patrol is due in Australia in late 2026. Before it lands in local showrooms, further updates are likely to be applied to the Patrol, such as the addition of a Patrol Pro-4X to follow the Armada, or other variants such as a Patrol Nismo.

Nissan Australia communications boss Emily Fadeyev told media overnight the local market “is the priority right-hand-drive market”.

“Right-hand drive production will follow left-hand drive, as soon as it’s available in right-hand drive we will launch it in Australia,” she said.
