1984 BMW R100RS Last Edition for sale on BaT Auctions – ending October 17 (Lot #167,097)


This 1984 BMW R100RS is one of 250 Last Edition units intended to commemorate the end of the brand’s boxer engine production, and this example spent time in Rhode Island before it was acquired by the seller on BaT in June 2023. Powered by an air-cooled 980cc opposed twin paired with a five-speed transmission, the bike has been refinished in white with tri-color pinstripes and Last Edition graphics. It also features an enclosed driveshaft, an electric starter, dual Bing carburetors, 19″ and 18″ cross-spoke alloy wheels, triple disc brakes, a pair of removable travel cases, and a full fairing with an integrated windscreen along with both side and center stands. The cylinder heads have been modified to accept dual spark plugs, and aftermarket additions include a Telefix fork brace, Race Tech fork springs, Progressive shocks, an upper triple clamp, a K75S-specification handlebar, and an LED taillight and gauge illumination. The speedometer, tachometer, clutch, electrical system, dual Bing carburetors, and brakes were reportedly serviced under previous ownership. This R100RS Last Edition is offered with an owner’s manual, a BMW Classic certificate, a Russell Cycle Products “Day-Long” two-up seat and Parabellum windscreens, spare components, and a clean Tennessee title in the seller’s name.

The motorcycle left the factory finished in Pearl White Metallic and was reportedly repainted under prior ownership, at which time it received commemorative Last Edition graphics and handpainted tri-color pinstripes. Additional features include a black-finished steel double-cradle frame, a BMW 3/4 solo seat, an integrated clear windscreen, aftermarket fairing-mounted mirrors, an LED taillight, side case mounts, and both center and side stands. A dent is noted in the left side of the tank along with scrapes and cracks at the fairing edges.

Cast-alloy snowflake wheels measuring 19″ up front and 18″ out back were reportedly mounted with a Michelin Pilot Activ front tire and a Michelin Road Classic rear tire under previous ownership. Suspension consists of a rebuilt leading-axle fork with Race Tech springs, a Telefix brace, and an upper triple clamp along with Progressive shocks mounted to the swingarm on the left and the final-drive housing on the right. Braking is provided by Brembo calipers, braided stainless-steel lines, dual floating rotors up front, and a single rotor at the rear. The steering head bearings and rear wheel bearings were reportedly changed in 2022.

A K75S-specification handlebar is fitted, and LED-illuminated MotoMeter instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 7,300-rpm redline as well as a voltmeter and an analog clock. An aftermarket USB outlet is secured to the handlebar center. The five-digit odometer shows 54k miles, approximately 100 of which were ridden under current ownership. The instrumentation was reportedly rebuilt and recalibrated in 2022.

The air-cooled 980cc opposed twin is equipped with modified dual-spark cylinder heads in addition to an EnDuraLast-Sachse crankshaft-mounted ignition module, a replacement starter motor, and a two-into-two exhaust system. Service under previous ownership is said to have included rebuilding the dual Bing carburetors as well as replacing the rotor, stator, diode board, voltage regulator, oil-pressure sender, ignition coils, alternator brushes, pushrod tube seals, battery, and cables.

Power is sent to the rear wheel through a five-speed transmission and a driveshaft enclosed within the right leg of the swingarm. The transmission was reportedly overhauled under previous ownership, and a replacement clutch disc was fitted in 2021.
