Highlighted Auction and Make Offer Sales from June 23 to June 29, 2024.

In looking ar some successful sales from this past week on Hemmings Auctions and Hemmings Make Offer, we highlight a 2008 Corvette Z06 from an unusual commemorative run. An authentic ’41 Dodge Business Coupe, free from being turned into a street rod, also found a new home. A slightly new vintage ’57 Buick wagon showed that the long-roof style in the right condition can perform very well in a public marketplace. Ferrari’s turbocharged 488 delivered supercar performance in a model that’s technically in the middle of its range. Fans of 1990s Chevy and GMC trucks stepped up with a strong number of bids for a rare 1993 Chevy Blazer. Finally, we look at a Maserati-engined Citroën SM, a unique French GT car from the 1970s.

2018 Ferrari 488 Spider

Asking Price: $284,995

Selling Price: $279,995

Recent Market Range: $205,000-$290,000

Introduced in 2015, the Ferrari 488 was the Italian marque’s first mid-engined, turbocharged V8-powered sports car since the famed F40. Ferrari has learned a lot since that Spartan, race-inspired supercar went out of production in 1992. Rated at 184 more horsepower than the F40, this 2018 Ferrari 488 Spider showed the level of sophistication, comfort and luxury expected by modern Ferrari buyers. This 661-hp 488 was equipped with more than $50,000 in options split between luxury and technology upgrades. With just over 10,000 miles showing on the odometer, this open-top version sold very strongly and near the top of the market range as a direct Make Offer listing.

1993 Chevrolet Blazer 4x4, rear quarter

1993 Chevrolet Blazer Silverado

Reserve: $17,750

Selling Price: $24,938

Recent Market Range: $16,000-$24,000

Through the term might have first been used to describe certain Ford trucks, enthusiasts have adopted “OBS” (for “old body style”) to describe the GMT400 truck and SUV variants made by GM from 1988 through 2002. This 1993 Chevrolet Blazer Silverado two-door SUV is a rarity among GMT400s, as it was only made for three model years. Technically, it is considered a GMT415. This example was listed as a one-owner vehicle with lots of originality, including its two-tone finish, 5.7-liter, 210-horsepower V8, and cloth seating surfaces. It appeared to have been exceptionally well taken care of the last three decades, which surely contributed to a net sale price that exceeded the recent market range.

2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Coupe Will Cooksey Edition, front quarter

2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

Reserve: $32,750

Selling Price: $39,375

Recent Market Range: $34,000-$52,000

Chevrolet is no stranger to special edition Corvettes that mark anniversary milestones or pace car replicas. This 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Coupe Will Cooksey Edition commemorated the retiring plant manager from the Corvette’s Bowling Green, Kentucky factory. While Cooksey might not be a household name, enthusiasts will recognize the Z06 designation that signified performance upgrades that were centered around the LS7, 505-hp, 7.0-liter V8. When it was first released in 2006, it was not only the most powerful Corvette to date, but also the lightest C6, thanks to extensive use of Carbon fiber. This Corvette sold as expected within the recent market range for Z06 models in similar condition.

1957 Buick Special Riviera Estate Wagon, front quarter

1957 Buick Special Riviera Estate Wagon

Asking Price: $98,995

Selling Price: $91,875

Recent Market Range: N/A

Buick had a broad product lineup in 1957. There were Special, Century, Roadmaster, and Riviera nameplates across four-door and two-door sedans, convertibles, two- and four-door hardtops, and station wagons. This 1957 Buick Riviera Special Estate Wagon was one of three different wagons that year. This one appeared to be in excellent condition throughout, including the interior and such details as the headliner and upholstery. The seller noted the 364-cu.in. “Nailhead” V8 as original to the car. Given the low volume of Buick wagons that sell publicly, we can’t determine a specific market range. However, the net sale price was clearly very strong for this wagon that sold as a direct Make Offer listing.

1973 Citroen SM, front quarter

1973 Citroën SM

Reserve: $28,000

Selling Price: $32,025

Recent Market Range: $24,000-$38,000

French automakers often find success when doing things their own way. This 1973 Citroën SM coupe offers ample evidence. Powered by a Maserati-sourced 3.0-liter V6 (Citroën owned Maserati at the time), the SM was a front-wheel-drive, four-passenger coupe with self-leveling, hydro-pneumatic suspension and a unique variable-assist power-steering system. This example was listed as having had its engine and five-speed manual transmission rebuilt by noted experts SM World. The listing also indicated extensive service such as recharged suspension spheres, a new steering rack, a new shift linkage and more. A video of the driver accelerating through the gears surely helped it achieve a net sale price 14{aa25fa8b82bb550df44f4514fef8e475020994699e2c082d49d75b275e3029cc} over reserve.

1941 Dodge Business Coupe, front quarter

1941 Dodge Deluxe Business Coupe

Reserve: $30,000

Selling Price: $28,875

Recent Market Range: $28,000-$45,000

The business coupe earned its keep for the few decades it reigned supreme as the traveling salesman’s utility vehicle. With space for two up front, no back seat and a massive trunk that extended into the passenger compartment, they were built for work. This 1941 Dodge Deluxe Business Coupe appeared to be an excellent restored example with its 218-cu.in. L-head straight-six that the seller indicated was original to the car. The engine bay and undercarriage looked particularly clean and the striped blue interior appeared to be in exceptional condition. Though it did not meet reserve, this Dodge found a buyer as a post-auction Make Offer listing just over 24 hours later, at a price in the expected market range.
